behind the scenes — our hong kong shoot

a few weeks ago i was in hong kong, meeting potential new manufacturing partners (more on that below). while i was in town i couldn't resist messaging my friend rachel song — stylist, casting director and hong kong local — to see if she'd want to take some of the current collection out for a wander.

what follows is her take on SS26, shot by abdela igmirien, worn by seven liu.

the eight things rachel chose:

  1. the puff shorts in flower — vintage dead stock nylon lace tricot, cotton lined, all drama in an impossible to find fabrication.
  2. the grape bolero — yummy mummy in its richest colour.
  3. the darling claw clip — bio acetate, leaf forward or apple forward, you choose.
  4. the logo removal long sleeve in misty jade — heavy cotton, scalloped trim, the colour of a quiet morning.
  5. the wet bloomers in fairy bread — semi-sheer, pink microdot chiffon, somehow both bubble skirt AND basketball shorts.
  6. the supervelvet house dress (currently made to order — browse dresses or come visit us in store or email us to order).
  7. the babydoll dress in tooth - the last style awaiting delivery for SS26; being made in hk currently and arriving soon.
  8. the multiway bikini - red polkadot is available now however the pink microdot is currently sold out.

all styled with current season socks and tights; the perfect accompaniment to any outfit.

a little more on sourcing in HK:

the day before i left for hong kong i visited our manufacturer in sydney's st peters to pick up the peignoirs & holy smock dresses and was told some big news: jack & neda the husband and wife duo who own the factory as well as all the women who work there as machinists had decided to retire and thus the factory was closing. we make 90% of our pieces with them so this was a massive shock; however the timing felt somewhat fated with the trip to hong kong. whilst there i met with 20 or so different factories, suppliers and makers, including a day trip to mainland china to visit our baby tee factory in zhu hai. overall it was incredibly inspiring; the skill level and technology available in china is mind blowing; the possibilities endless, the taste for innovation is contagious and the hospitality next level.

we've begun developing & producing RS27 (aka australian summer 2027) which will be presented and released to purchase in october this year and much of this will be made with people i met on this trip.
